Welcome to Foundmates ("we," "us," "our," or the "App"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the App. By creating an account, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. By signing up, you represent that you are 18 or older. We ask for your date of birth at signup, and ask every new member for one live selfie that our team reviews before approving her profile. See Section 5 and our Privacy Policy for details. We do not independently confirm every user's age or identity beyond what's described here.
Foundmates is a space for women. By creating an account, you represent that you identify as a woman. Misrepresenting this is a violation of these Terms and grounds for removal under Section 10.
Foundmates is a platform that helps people discover and connect with others for platonic friendship, based on shared aesthetics, interests, and values.
The App does not organize, supervise, or guarantee any in-person meeting between users. Whether, when, where, and how to meet another user (if at all) is entirely up to you and the other person. We provide optional, informational suggestions of nearby places based on shared interests; these are suggestions only, not endorsements, invitations, or arrangements made by us, and we have no involvement in and no responsibility for what happens if you choose to meet someone in person.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any account that violates these Terms, at our discretion, with or without notice.
To keep the App a space for women, every new member takes one live selfie while making a pose we ask for. A member of our team compares it with your profile photos and approves or declines your profile. Until you are approved you cannot be seen by, or interact with, other members. Approved members show a "verified" checkmark, which means we reviewed your selfie and photos. The selfie is deleted as soon as we have reviewed it. We may decline or remove any profile at our discretion. Full detail on how this data is handled is in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these Terms.
We collect your phone number at signup but do not call or text you by default. If you separately opt in at signup (a distinct checkbox from agreeing to these Terms) or later in Account Settings, we may text you about things like new matches or product updates. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any text, or by turning it off in Account Settings. Opting in is never required to use the App.
The App includes tools to report and block other users. We review reports at our discretion and may take action including warnings, suspension, or permanent removal from the App. We are not obligated to take any specific action in response to a report, and we do not guarantee that reported content or behavior will be reviewed within any particular timeframe.
You retain ownership of content you post (profile information, mood board selections, messages, etc.), but you grant us a license to use, display, and store that content as necessary to operate the App. You are solely responsible for the content you post and share with other users. Do not post anything you do not have the right to post. If you believe content on Foundmates infringes your copyright, see our Copyright (DMCA) page; we close the accounts of repeat infringers.
Some features are paid: a Travel Pass ($3.99, one-time, per trip), a Boost ($2.99, lasts 24 hours), and Foundmates+ ($12.99 per month, an auto-renewing subscription). Prices may change; the price shown at purchase is the price you pay.
In the iOS app, purchases are made through Apple's In-App Purchase and charged to your Apple ID. Foundmates+ renews automatically each month unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel any time in Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions, and use "Restore purchases" in the app to recover a purchase on a new device. Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple.
On the web, payments are processed by Stripe and we do not store your full payment card details. You can cancel a web subscription yourself in one step: open Me, then Foundmates+, then "Manage or cancel subscription". You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for, and Stripe emails you a receipt for each charge. To ask about a charge, contact support@foundmates.app. Except where required by law, fees are non-refundable.
You may delete your account at any time through account settings; see our Privacy Policy for what happens to your data when you do. We may suspend or terminate your access to the App at our discretion, including for violation of these Terms.
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY USER YOU MATCH WITH WILL BE SAFE, TRUTHFUL, OR COMPATIBLE WITH YOU.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, Foundmates AND ITS OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP OR YOUR INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER USERS, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE APP SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US, IF ANY, IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE.
You agree to indemnify and hold Foundmates harmless from any claims, losses, or damages, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your use of the App, your violation of these Terms, or your interactions with other users.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, unless otherwise required by applicable law in your jurisdiction.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. We'll make reasonable efforts to notify you of material changes.
