Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 14, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Foundmates ("we,"
"us," "our") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. By
using the App, you agree to this Policy.
1. Information We Collect
-
Account information: first name, date of birth
(kept only to work out your age and confirm you are 18 or older;
never shown to other users, and your age is shown instead), phone
number, home city, zip code (used only for internal analysis of
where our community is active, never shown to other users or used
to narrow who you match with beyond general city-level matching).
We confirm your phone number is yours by texting you a one-time
code, and we do not allow the same number on more than one account.
Unless you separately opt in to SMS at signup or in Account
Settings, it is not used to contact you for anything else. See
Section 5 below.
-
Review selfie: during signup you take one live
selfie while making a pose we ask for. A member of our team compares
it with your profile photos to confirm you are who your photos show,
then approves or declines your profile. The selfie is stored
privately, is seen only by our review team, is never shown on your
profile, and is deleted as soon as we have reviewed it.
It is not used for facial recognition against other users.
-
Where you post from: when you post to Tonight, we
save the approximate place you are (your phone's location rounded to
about a mile, if you allow it, otherwise your home city) so we can
match you with women nearby, and, if you are far from home, show a
"Visiting from" note. It is deleted a day after the post ends.
-
Plans and attendance: the spot and time of a plan
you are part of, and, after it, whether you went and who you say was
there. Other members see only a good record ("Has shown up to 3
plans"), never a list of anything negative. Two or more missed plans
in 30 days can pause your invitations until that clears. Saying you
cannot make it ahead of time is never counted as a missed plan.
-
Short notes during a plan: when you tap "I'm here"
you can add one line, such as where you are standing, and you can
tell the group you are home safe or need help. Other women in that
plan see these, and the help alert is also sent to them as a
notification. They are kept with the plan record.
-
Who you would hang out with again: after a plan you
can say which women you would meet again. This is private. It is
only used if she says the same about you, in which case you are told
and invited together first next time.
-
New in town: if you say you recently moved, other
members see a small "New in town" note on your card for 60 days, and
we use it to introduce you to other new arrivals and to women who
said they are happy to show people around. You can turn it off in
Me.
-
Profile and quiz data: your mood board
selections, activity preferences, and answers to our
compatibility questions, including optional questions about
topics like political views (used only for our matching filters,
never displayed on your public profile, and never shared with any
user unless you choose to share it yourself in conversation)
-
Social media links: Instagram/TikTok handles, if
you choose to add them
-
Location data: your home city and the zip code
you enter, which we convert into approximate coordinates. If you
choose "Use my location" (in Tonight, People or Me), we also read
your device's approximate location, only while the app is open and
only when you ask. We round it to a general area of roughly one
kilometer before saving it and never store your exact position.
We use it only to measure distance to other people and plans
within the search radius you choose. Other users see at most a
rounded distance in miles, never your coordinates or zip code.
You can switch back to your home city anytime in Me, or turn
location off for Foundmates in iOS Settings. Foundmates does not
track your location in the background.
- Chat messages exchanged with other users
-
Sign in with Apple or Google: if you choose either,
we receive your name and email address from them (Apple may give us
a private relay address instead of your real email). We never see
your Apple or Google password. For Apple, we keep a connection token
only so we can disconnect Foundmates from your Apple ID if you
delete your account.
-
Messages you send us through Me, Contact us: the
topic, your message, your app version and your account, so we can
reply. They are kept for our records and, after you delete your
account, are no longer connected to your name or email.
-
Payment information: on the web, handled directly
by Stripe; in the iOS app, purchases are processed by Apple
(In-App Purchase) and we receive only confirmation of what you
bought, through our subscription provider RevenueCat. We do not
receive or store your full card number or Apple payment details.
-
Device information: if you allow push
notifications, a device token so we can send plan and message
alerts through Apple's push service. You can turn these off in
Settings.
-
Usage data: basic app activity (logins, feature
usage) for security and to understand how the App is used
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to operate the App's core function:
calculating compatibility, showing you a match pool, enabling chat,
processing payments, and keeping the App safe (verification,
reports, moderation). We do not use your data to show you
third-party ads, and we do not sell your personal information to
data brokers or advertisers.
3. Biometric Data: Additional Detail
Your review selfie is looked at by a person, not run through facial
recognition software, and is deleted once that review is done.
If you are a California resident, this processing may constitute
"sensitive personal information" under the California Consumer
Privacy Act (CCPA). You have the right to request that we limit our
use of this data to what's necessary to provide the service (which,
given our immediate-deletion practice, is already the case), and
the right to know what we've processed. See Section
7 for how to exercise these rights.
4. Sensitive Compatibility Answers
Some of our matching questions touch on personal topics, including
political views, to help you avoid matches that wouldn't be a good
fit. Your answers to these questions:
- Are never shown on your public profile
- Are never visible to other users directly
-
Are used only internally by our matching system to filter or rank
potential matches
- Can be changed or deleted by you at any time in account settings
5. SMS Communications
We collect your phone number at signup and text you once, with a
verification code, to confirm it is yours. We do not text or call you
for anything else by default. If you separately opt in (a distinct checkbox from
agreeing to our Terms, at signup or later in Account Settings), we
may text you about things like new matches or product updates.
Message frequency varies with your activity. Message and data rates
may apply, and agreeing to texts is not a condition of using the App.
We do not share mobile phone numbers or text message opt-in data with
third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
You can withdraw consent at any
time by replying STOP to any text or turning it off in Account
Settings; we keep a timestamp of when you opted in (or out) as our
record of consent.
6. Who We Share Data With
We share limited data with the third-party services that help us
operate the App, each only for their specific function:
- Supabase (our database host): stores your account and profile data
- Vercel (website and server hosting): serves the App and runs our server code; it sees technical request data such as your IP address
-
Apple and Google (sign in, if you choose it): confirm
who you are and share the name and email described above
-
Twilio (phone verification and text messages):
sends the one-time code to your phone and, only if you opt in, the
texts described in Section 5. It receives your phone number and the
message content.
- Stripe (web payments): processes web purchases and subscriptions
-
Apple (In-App Purchase and push notifications)
and RevenueCat (subscription management):
process iOS purchases and tell us which purchases are active on
your account
-
Google Places: used to generate nearby-spot
suggestions based on your activity preferences and general area, and
to show those places' photos. Fonts are served from our own
servers, not Google's.
-
Sightengine (photo moderation): automatically
screens photos you upload for policy violations (e.g. nudity,
gore) before they're added to your profile
-
PostHog (product analytics): only if you tap Allow
when we ask, and you can switch it off any time in Me, Privacy.
It counts which screens and steps are used so we can fix confusing
parts of the App. We do not record what you type, your messages,
your photos, your location, or anything about payments, and we do
not use screen recording or automatic click capture.
-
Sentry (error monitoring): receives technical
error reports (which screen, what failed) so we can fix crashes;
we do not use session recording
We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose
information if required by law or to protect the safety of our
users.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Know what personal information we've collected about you
- Access a copy of your data
- Delete your account and associated data (see Section 8)
- Correct inaccurate information
- Limit our use of sensitive personal information
-
Opt out of the sale of personal information (we
do not sell personal information, so this is not applicable, but
you retain the right to ask)
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at
support@foundmates.app. If you are a
New York resident, please note that under the New York SHIELD Act,
we maintain reasonable administrative, technical, and physical
safeguards to protect your data, described further in Section 9.
8. Account Deletion
You can delete your account at any time in Settings. When you do:
-
Your name is replaced with "Deleted user", and your bio, phone
number, home city, location, photos, mood board and activity
selections, compatibility answers, social links, trip details,
and push tokens are permanently deleted or cleared, and you can
no longer sign in.
-
Messages and group chats belong to the conversation, not to one
person: messages you sent may remain visible to the other people
in those conversations, shown under "Deleted user" rather than
your name, so deleting your account does not erase their chat
history.
-
Limited data tied to an active, unresolved safety report (e.g.
content you sent that's currently under review) may be retained
briefly for safety and legal purposes, then deleted once the
matter is resolved.
-
Basic transaction records may be retained as required for tax and
accounting purposes.
9. Data Security
We use industry-standard safeguards, including database-level
access controls (Row Level Security, meaning your data is only
accessible to your own account and to us as the operator) and
encrypted connections. No system is 100% secure, and we cannot
guarantee absolute security.
10. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly
collect information from anyone under 18, and our sign-up asks for a
date of birth without hinting at the age it is looking for. If you
believe a child has an account, email
support@foundmates.app
with the first name and city on the profile. We close the account and
delete the child's information promptly, and we do not require proof
of the reporter's identity to act.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We'll make reasonable
efforts to notify you of material changes.
